Sefydlwyd Sefydliad y Merched (SyM) yn 1915 er rhoi arweiniaeth mewn tyfu a chadw bwyd ar gyfer ymdrech y rhyfel.

Y pedwar delfryd yw Gwirionedd, Goddefgarwch, Cyfiawnder a Chyfeillach a dyma ar beth y seiliedwyd y mudiad.

Cynhaliwyd y cyfarfod cyntaf yn Llanfair PG ar Fedi’r 11eg ac fe dyfodd yn gyflyn i 800 o sefydliadau erbyn diwedd 1918.

Mae cryn ddiwigiad wedi digwydd dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf gyda llawer o grwpiau iau a bywiog yn cychwyn , ddim yn unig mewn ardaloedd gwledig ond mewn trefi, gweithleoedd a hyd yn oed mewn prifysgolion. Ar adeg dathlu Canmlwyddiant yn 2015 ‘roedd dros 215.00 o aelodau mewn mwy na 6,300 SyM.

Yn Llansannan, cynhelir cyfarfodydd misol yng Nghanolfan Addysg Bro Aled ar y nos Fercher gyntaf bob mis am 7.00yh lle ceir cyflwyniad gan siaradwr gwadd, i’w ddilyn gyda lluniaeth a sgwrs.
Hefyd mae gennym grwp gwau / crefft sy’n cyfarfod ar fore Gwener yn nhai gwahanol aelodau.

Yn ychwanegol mae llawer o ddigwyddiadau’n cael ei trefnu gan y Sir fel grwpiau crefft, cinio a cherdded.

Yn genedlaethol, mae Cyfarfod Blynyddol Cyffredinol a gynhelir fel arfer mewn dinasoedd mawr fel Llundain, Caerdydd neu Manceinion a bydd pob SyM yn anfon cynrychiolwr. Bydd trafodaeth ar gynigion gyda phleidlais ac mae ymdrechion lle mae pwsau ar y Llywodraeth i wneud newidiadau. Mae ymdrechion diweddar yn cynnwys pris teg am laeth, llyfrgelloedd cyhoeuddus, trais yn erbyn merched, mwy o fuddwragedd a gwenyn

Mae gan Gymru Ffederasiwn Genedlaethol sy’n cynnal Cyfarfod Blynyddol Cyffredinol ac yn creu Agenda ei hyn.

Mae gan SyM hefyd Goleg, sef Denman yn Swydd Rhydychen lle trfnir amrywiaeth mawr o gyrsiau trwy’r flwyddyn.

The Women's Institute (WI) was formed in 1915 to give a lead in the growing and preserving of food for the war effort.

The four ideals of Truth, Tolerance, Justice and Fellowship are what the movement is based on.

The first meeting took place in Llanfair PG on September 11th and it grew rapidly with 800 institutes formed by the end of 1918.

There has been a revival in recent years with many younger, lively groups being formed not only in rural communities but in towns, workplaces and even universities. At the time of the Centenary in 2015 there were over 215,000 members in over 6,300 WI's.

Llansannan's monthly meetings are held in the Community Centre on the first Wednesday at 7pm where we have a speaker followed by refreshments and chat. We also have a weekly knitting/craft group which meets on a Friday in different members' houses.

In addition there are also many events organised by the county such as craft groups, lunches and walks.

Nationally there is an AGM once a year in large cities such as London, Cardiff or Manchester to which each WI sends a delegate.
A resolution is debated and voted on and then there are campaigns where the government is lobbied to bring about change.
Recent campaigns have been on the milk price, public libraries, violence against women, more midwives and honeybees.

There is a National Federation of Wales which has its own agenda and AGM.
The WI has its own college, Denman in Oxfordshire, which runs an enormous number of very diverse courses throughout the year.
